Almost Done

10/26/2024

It's the end of October and my back garden is just about done for another year....
Picture
All the hostas have been turning bright yellow. Each day there's more yellow and less green....
Picture
The garden is on 'life support' as we've been bringing all the moveable pots of flowers into the garage whenever the night temperatures approach freezing...
Picture
So it's still very colourful...

But this weekend it all ends. We will be getting our first night frost. Yes, we'll bring the moveable pots into the garage again, but we can't save the hostas. They will all freeze and turn to mush.

I don't know how much longer we can keep saving the potted flowers. They aren't looking very good up close anymore either.

So, if I want to take any last doll photos out there, I need to do it today. Although it's supposed to rain, so who knows?  It's just sad when it all comes to an end for another year, as it will be eight months before there's any colour out there again.

The garden still looks pretty in the photos. I hope you are able to take some last photos.

The garden does look very colourful, but it all depends on what angle I take the photos - or don't look too closely. The hostas are going downhill extremely fast, and even if we don't get frost to finish them, they really need to be cut back.

I did manage a few photos out there yesterday, but am tired of lugging everything out there. So, maybe it's a good thing the garden photography is coming to an end.

So pretty and so sad. As beautiful as autumn is, it has such a sad end when the flowers all die. But we do have spring to look forward to (in what seems like the distant future sometimes) and the rebirth of our gardens. Yours is very beautiful!

I took the photos in such a way that the garden still looks good, but in reality it's on its last legs. Jan's been clearing out more and more dead plants every day, and soon it will be totally bare.

The thing is, my backyard isn't really suitable for doll photos until around early June when there's enough colour for the background. The big thing I always look forward to is buying the baskets of million bells to serve as doll sized flowers. Those are also the last to succumb to frost, so even though they aren't as lush and full of flowers as they were, there will still be a bit of life left in them. Hopefully until we get some snow.
