Jude and Grace's family usually spend most of their time as a more rugged Celtic family in my Medieval Fantasy world, and what better place to photograph them out on location than in the rugged beauty of Newfoundland? So, in addition to travelling as a contemporary family, I also took along their Celtic outfits. But it's a lot of work to change everyone - it takes me several hours - so I decided to only do it once, starting at Goose Cove at the top of the northern peninsula. Then the next morning just after sunrise I took some group photos of them. Photographing dolls in bright sunshine is always a challenge, but with the sun still so low in the sky, there would be less harsh shadows on their faces.... They fit in beautifully with the rugged landscape... ..while looking forward to some interesting adventures.
I can easily imagine the time taken to change costumes, as well as the well-known difficulties of photographing faces in bright sunlight, but as always, you rose to the challenge brilliantly, and these photos are splendid with this background so well suited to this family.

Thanks! I had really been looking forward to take their photos in some of the really rugged places, but was only going to change them into these outfits one time, and then back into their modern outfits again later. I had hoped for more overcast skies so I'd have the right atmosphere for this family, but one can't order the weather, and I was stuck with bright sunshine almost every time we were anywhere I had wanted to take their photos. It was either dense fog and pouring rain, or clear blue skies. And on a clear day it was okay first thing in the morning, or right before sunset, but several times it was mid day, which is really bad, and I was disappointed with the photos, but I had no choice.

I think the photos came out well, particularly the family shots with the background. I can only imagine how long it takes to change them. I certainly appreciate only doing it once.

What a fine looking family. I am always amazed at how stunning Jude looks in anything that he wears.

Grace, Jude and their children are always magnificent in their Celtic costumes. It is unfortunate when the weather doesn't cooperate when you are traveling and have only a limited time to take the photographs you were planning. All of these that you were able to take certainly turned out well despite the handicaps! Comments are closed.
