A Christmas Story - part 7
Nativity Scenes
Elora and Hans were thrilled with their Christmas creches....
"Look Mom, it's just how I always imagined..."
The King took Nick aside, "That was very thoughtful of you. I'm sure the children will cherish them always. Thank you!"
Hans brought his creche over to show his parents...
"It's beautiful, Hans..."
...while Nora busied herself picking up all the gift-wrap....
She was so happy to see how pleased the children were....
"There's even a beautiful angel at the top of the stable, watching over everyone..."
Dessert
Dessert was laid out, and the room took on a casual air.....
It was no longer a group of commoners in the presence of their King and Queen.....
...but a group of friends celebrating Christmas together...
Hans and Elora were enjoying some desserts...
While comparing their nativity scenes...
The men were enjoying dessert and a pint of ale.
"Those nativity scenes are really beautiful."
"Those nativity scenes are really beautiful."
"You have quite some wood carving skills..."
"Unfortunately I haven't been able to do much of it recently. My eyes just aren't what they used to be. So I was very happy to find there were enough figures to make two sets for the children."
The women were impressed with the wonderful pastries, and wondered if they could get the recipes.
"We've had a wonderful time, but it's getting rather late. I think it's time we should be going..."
"Well, good night then........and thank you again, for coming."
Bed Time
It had been a long day, and it was time for bed....
Elora put her creche on her night table, where she could see it....
"It's time to go to sleep now..."
"Good night, Mom..."
"Good night, sweetheart." and the Queen started to blow out the candles....
But Elora just wanted to look at the babe in the manger a little longer.
This had truly been the very best Christmas ever....

Epilogue
A Letter Arrives
A week later, it was the first day of the New Year, and a letter arrived at the castle for the Queen....
"Elora, go and put on your coat and hat. You and I are going on a little outing..."
Elora's foot had healed nicely and she no longer needed the crutch.
"Where are we going?"
"Where are we going?"
"It's a surprise.."
So they put on their warm winter wear, and headed out....
"I love surprises..."
Sleigh Ride
The Queen and Elora got into the sleigh, and headed into the woods....
Elora was excited, and curious....
....wondering where they were going...
"We are almost there...."
The woods started to look familiar somehow, and Elora got the feeling that she had been here before...
"I think I know where we are going....."
the Popcorn Tree
Elora was right. They were headed for Nick and Nora's cottage.
Nora had already taken their Christmas tree out, and stood it in the snow. Hans was there too.

"Wow! Look at all the birds!"
"Yes, they love it when I put the popcorn and cranberries out for them..."
"If you take some, and put out your hand, they will even come eat out of your hand..."
So Elora held out some popcorn, and a bird came and sat on her hand right away..
"Look Mom!!"
She was so thrilled to have the little birds come eat out of her hand....
This had truly been the very best Christmas ever.
