Victorian Times 5 - Family Holidays
A continuing series of photos featuring my Victorian family. They were all taken to become additions to two Victorian Family albums under construction at the time, so are just some simple scenes, and not intended to be complete stories.
At the Train Station
Steve and iris had booked tickets to take the train to the seaside for a family vacation.
"I'm really looking forward to this."
They had invited their niece Holly to join them...
as well as their nephew Coco....
"When is the train supposed to come?"

"Any time now, I think."
the Train Arrives
The children were eagerly watching for the train...
"I think I see it!"
"Yes, here it comes!"
They watched as the train pulled into the station...
"All aboard!"
At the Beach
The children were very excited to be at the seaside, and immediately changed into their bathing suits...
And even though it was a warm day, Steve and Iris were content to just watch the children for now....
'This is such a lovely place."
Nyssa was getting impatient. "Who wants to go for a swim?"
"Go ahead. We'll watch you."
So they headed into the water...
But Eric was more interested in sailing his boat.....
Ice Cream
Meanwhile Holly and Lisa were watching Sena, and enjoying some cool treats.
Victorian Swimsuits
Iris finally decided to be brave and change into her swimsuit...
"So, what do you think?"
'You look just fine."
And they all took a stroll in the surf...
Picnic on the Dunes
When it was time for lunch, they all sat down together for a picnic on the dunes..
Relaxing
Everyone was having a wonderful, relaxing time.
Iris was able to just sit and catch up on some reading, while Steve kept the children entertained.
Sena was often happy to just sit and watch...
..and Nyssa was loving all the wild flowers...

Sand Castles
The weather was beautiful, and the family spent most of their time down at the beach....
...building elaborate sand castles...
Junk Food
One of the children's favourite things about being on vacation was that they were allowed to indulge in all kinds of treats...

Looking for Shells
Every morning when the tide was out, the children enjoyed looking for any shells that had washed ashore....
Then they'd sort through them...to choose the ones they wanted to keep...
They posed for one final group photo...
...and Nyssa picked one last bouquet of wildflowers...
...and the next morning it was time to board the train for the return trip back home. It had been fun ... and was over far too soon. But it was time to go home.
Holiday Baking
It was almost Christmas, and the girls always loved to start their Christmas baking a bit early
Lisa would mix up the cookie dough...
While Nyssa would choose her favourite cookie cutters...while waiting impatiently....
for her sister to roll out the dough.
Cutting out the cookies was one of Nyssa's favourite parts...
"Try to cut them out a little closer together."
Once the cookies were baked, and cooled, it was time to decorate them...
It wasn't all that easy to squeeze out the nice even lines of icing...
Their brother had smelled the cookies baking, and came to try one out...
'Who said you could take two?"
Decorating the Tree
Eric and Nyssa thought they were about done decorating the tree, but then their Dad came in with a few more boxes of ornaments...
"I found some more."
Lisa was busy replacing the pillows on the sofa with the holiday throw pillows...
"Who wants to help with all these last ones?"
"I will."
Few More Ornaments
Eric was helping his Dad hang up the last ornaments...
Nyssa was putting the candles in the Yule log...
While Lisa got started on some more paper chains...
She always loved making them....
When she was finished with the Yule log, Nyssa wanted to help with the paper chains too...
Paper Chains and Candy Canes
When Lisa was finished the paper chain, Steve helped her hang it up into the tree...
...while Eric and Nyssa got out the last candy canes...
"Do you think they'll notice if we eat one?"
"Probably not."
A Gingerbread House
Every Christmas Lisa would make a gingerbread house...
...and Nyssa always liked to help....
She loved helping with the decorating....
It was their favourite part.
Christmas Cards
Every morning the girls were excited to see if the postman had delivered any more Christmas cards....
Then they'd open them and read them together...

"This one is from Aunt Donna."
When they'd finished reading them, Iris put them up on the fireplace mantle...
"Here we can all enjoy them."
