Rex & Bianca's Newfoundland Adventure - part 5
Arriving at Louisbourg
Once we were back on Cape Breton Island, I wanted to go visit the historic Fortress of Louisbourg. It's an authentic recreation of part of the French fort that existed there back in 1745. I was really looking forward to taking Rex and Bianca there for photos. The day started out nice and sunny, as we went out along the rugged coast to the town of Louisbourg.
Fortress Louisbourg is a partial reconstruction of the French fort as it stood here in 1745, when it was captured by the English. A great deal of research was done to make sure everything was as accurate as possible.....
People dressed in period clothes work in the fort as they would have over 250 years ago...
It was an interesting day weather-wise the day Rex and Bianca arrived at the Fortress Louisbourg. Big storm clouds moved in, with spotty sun, and even the occasional downpour.....and lots of wind...
Arrival Day
One of the first things Rex did after they arrived, was to take a tour of the fortifications....
While Bianca went to check out some of the gardens....
Canons
Rex continued his tour around the town, and came across the artillery forge...
Ready for a canon.....
He was impressed by the row of canons lined up outside the forge....
Fresh Bread
Most of the homes in Louisbourg did not have ovens, so Bianca had to go to the bakery every few days for some fresh bread....
Loading Supplies
Most days Rex was busy helping out around the fort....
the Engineer's Garden
In Louisbourg, the most opulent home belonged to the Engineer. His house was bigger and nicer than even the Governor's. One entered his property through a big stone gate....
Bianca loved the garden there....
By the Harbour
Rex and Bianca met up down on the quay...
Some of the biggest houses were along the quay...
One Last Picnic
It was almost time to leave Louisbourg, so Rex thought he'd surprise Bianca with a picnic.
He had laid everything out in the King's Garden....
Back Where We Started
It was a very long, hot, wet drive through all of New Brunswick, up into Quebec, and we took a short break in the evening to go to the lookout along the St. Lawrence in St. Roche des Aulnais, which is where I took the very first doll photos almost four weeks earlier....
