More Special Days
A continuing series of photos celebrating Special Days throughout the year....
Truth & Reconciliation Day
September 30th, 2021, is the inaugural National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada. It's a new federal holiday created this past summer in response to the rediscovery of hundreds of unmarked graves at the former Indian Residential Schools in different parts of the country.
Designating September 30th as the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation is meant to honour the children who suffered in the residential school system, and to recognize the trauma survivors still experience. The hope is that on this day of reflection, wide attention might finally be given to the stories so long overlooked. It's about educating, and awareness, and about honouring indigenous children and their families, and their communities.
So I've gathered a collection of my doll photos featuring children in traditional indigenous garb....

Many people think the residential schools existed a century ago, but the last one closed in 1996. So today we take time to reflect on the darker aspects of our country's history, in the hope of finally facing the truth, with hopes of moving forward to a reconciliation, and an end to racism.
The children are our future, and it begins with them...

Octopus Day
October 8th is World Octopus Day...
Making Dinner
November 5th is National 'Men making Dinner Day', so Owen thought he'd treat Leona to a nice home cooked meal. But he wasn't all that experienced, so had to look up her favourite recipes...
He knew she loved cream puffs, and that they would take the longest, so started on those first...
All ready to go into the oven....
Owen wanted to really impress Leona and make his own pasta from scratch....
Then it was time to start on the sauce....
"Perfect!!"
The pasta was perfectly 'al dente'.....
He suddenly remembered that he still needed to ice the cream puffs!
So he whipped up some frosting....
"All done! Leona is going to be so surprised!
Bon appetite!"
Bon appetite!"
Autumn Cuties
With it getting rather late in the fall, and most of the trees being bare already, I still wanted to take a few portraits of some of my BIDs with whatever coloured leaves were left. So we took Aki and Erin to look for some....and found some lovely bright red bushes....
Aki wore one of the new sweaters and hat sets that I knitted recently....
Erin was borrowing an outfit made for Bonnie...
Together they posed for some portraits with the leaves...
Fast Food
November 16th, is National Fast Food Day. It was Owens turn to look after dinner again, but after all the work it took to make dinner ten days ago, and the huge mess he was left with afterwards, he decided to go an easier route this time.....fast food....
...and he made sure to get something to please everyone....
"Everyone is going to LOVE this!"
Recycle Day
November 15th was 'America Recycles Day', but we put out our recycling on Thursdays. So Holly helped Milo take their's down to the road.....
It was also Garden Waste day....
"That's not so many leaves..."
"Well, I'll rake up some more for next week..."
"So that's everything for today's pickup...."
