Victorian Times 3

A continuing series of photos featuring my Victorian family. They were all taken to become additions to two Victorian Family albums under construction at the time, so are just some simple scenes, and not intended to be complete stories.

Parkwood

Steve surprised Iris with a weekend getaway at one of the finest hotels in the country....
Picture
Just the two of them, together for an entire weekend.
Picture
for their anniversary.

Going Riding

Steve and Iris went to check out the stables.
Picture
Picture
It had been years since they'd gone riding...
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
They stopped to take a short rest, and just enjoy the countryside...
Picture
"This was such a wonderful idea."
Picture
'Yes, it was."
Picture
"But I think my horse wants to get going again."

In the Garden

Iris went for a stroll in the hotel gardens...
Picture
Picture
Picture
Steve came to join her...
Picture
Picture
"Shall we go for dinner now?"
Picture

Dessert

After dinner, Steve and Iris went out to the formal gardens for wine and dessert...
Picture
"I've had such a lovely time here."
Picture
"Me too. We should get away like this more often."
Picture
Picture
"But I do miss the children,"
Picture
"Well, tomorrow we'll head back home..."
Picture
"So, let's just enjoy this last evening together."

Art on the Patio

Lisa enjoyed painting and drawing, and it was such a lovely day, that she had set up her easel on the patio, and picked a bouquet of flowers for her subject...
Picture
She had invited her friend Peach to join her...
Picture
It was always fun to paint something from life...
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
Lisa's finished painting...
Picture
Peach was talented too...
Picture
but she preferred pencils to paint....
Picture
...and soon she was finished as well..
Picture
Two artistic young ladies, same subject, and with very different styles....
Picture

Wellington

On another short weekend away, Steve and Iris went for a walk along the beach....
Picture
...as was the custom in Victorian days...
Picture
where the well-to-do would promenade along the beach in full formal attire....
Picture
They sat down to enjoy a picnic lunch...
Picture
"This is such a nice beach," he said, "but I don't understand why everyone is so formally dressed and no one goes into the water."
Picture
"I don't either ...but that's just how it's done these days."
Picture
Picture
"We should really bring the children here." he suggested.
Picture
"That's a great idea."
Picture
"...but after I make us all some suitable swimwear."
Picture

Lunch on the Dock

Eric and his friends were down by the dock hoping to find a spot to sail their boats...
Picture
But there wasn't any decent water access...
Picture
"I don't think we can sail our boats here." sighed Eric.
Picture
"No," agreed Elliot. "The water is way too deep."
Picture
Disappointed, Bordy and Coco decided it was as good as any time to have lunch....
Picture
Picture
Picture
Elliot decided to join them...
Picture
But Eric was too disappointed to eat. He had looked forward to sailing his boat all week.
Picture
But his stomach was growling...
Picture
... and the sandwiches did look mighty good.
Picture
"Just put your boat down." suggested Coco, "Take a sandwich, and after lunch we can find someplace else to sail our boats."
Picture

Sailing Boats

The boys ended up at a lake where it was shallow enough close to shore to safely sail their boats...
Picture
The lake was relatively calm, and it looked promising....
Picture
Picture
Picture
But Eric's boat kept wanting to wash ashore...
Picture
..and Bordy's boat was swamped...
