North of Superior
The continuing story of Baron and Naomi's trip up north
Michipicoten
Michipicoten First Nation is in a remote area on the rugged shore of Lake Superior. Tucked between the rocky outcrops there are also long sandy beaches....
There's also an installation from the Group of Seven Touring Route, which is a recent new series of installations to showcase where some of Canada's most famous artists painted their iconic works. There are sturdy, permanent easels set up with copies of the paintings that were done at that spot. This is the one at Sand Beach, Michipicoten. There were also easels at Katharine Cove, Chippewa Falls, and Pancake Bay. There's a map available from Ontario Parks that shows where they all are.
It was cold and extremely windy....
...but it was still ever so beautiful.....
Another Sunset
Back at Old Woman Bay for the night, Baron and Naomi went to the beach to watch the sun set....
It was cold and extremely windy, so Naomi wrapped herself in a colourful, warm afghan....
Would there be a colourful sunset this evening?
Baron's hat kept blowing away, so he took it off, and sat down beside Naomi....
it was too cloudy on the horizon, so there was just a little red glow for a few minutes....
Katharine Cove
It rained all night and was still raining as they headed south to Katharine Cove...
But it looked like it might clear some...
A while later it did clear a little....
...and Baron hiked out on the rocky point....
I'm glad we came up here. The scenery is spectacular."
It's always been one of my favourite places."
Enjoying the Scenery
The rocky shore of Lake Superior was spectacular...
...especially when the sun came out.....
When they arrived back in Sault Ste Marie.....
... and Baron wanted Pizza for dinner....
Then at Gros Cap with more storm clouds on the horizon....
Last Day Up North
They woke to yet another rainy day....
But rain or no rain, they were going to go out anyway....
....and enjoy the scenery....
The sun did venture out occasionally between rain storms....
At Batchewana Bay they stopped for a break....
Then stopped in at the nearby Trading Post at Pancake Bay.....
Where Naomi fell in love with a cute stuffed bear and moose.....
...so Baron bought them for her....
Then to Gros Cap again for one final sunset....
