A Christmas Story - part 3

the Search Party

There were only two roads leading down from the castle to the village,
so the King started his search for Elora on the main road first...
Picture
He had two of his best men with him, both very skilled at tracking....
Picture
Picture
But the snow was coming down hard.....
Picture
Hiding any tracks the Princess might have left hours earlier...
Picture
..and it was coming down harder by the minute....
Picture
There was no sign of the Princess....
Picture

Looking for Hans

Hans' parents were out looking for their son as well. He had told them that he was going on an errand to the castle, but even so, he should have been back long ago....
Picture
So they headed up the road to the castle, to look for him...
Picture
They soon came across three men on horseback. It was the King, and two of his men...
Picture
"We are looking for the Princess..."
Picture
 "Have you seen her?"
Picture
"No Sire, we haven't seen her...."
Picture
"In fact we are looking for our son...."
Picture
"He went out earlier, heading for the castle, and never came back."
Picture
"It would seem that we are both searching for our missing children..."
Picture
"We have already searched this road all the way from the castle, and haven't seen your son...."
Picture
"And we've searched it from the village to here, and not seen the Princess..."
Picture
"That just leaves the other road...."
Picture
'We could go together to search there..."
Picture
Hans' father turned to his wife...."What do you think, dear?"
Picture
"I don't know.  I'm getting really cold and tired, and am starting to wonder if I shouldn't have stayed at home, just in case Hans came back.....but, okay...we really need to push on, and find the children, before it gets dark...."
Picture
Feeling sympathy for the poor, tired woman, one of the king's men offered her his horse....
Picture

Leaving

Back in the woodcutter's cottage, Nick had warmed up, and was ready to go back out. Nora helped him on with his coat...
Picture
"I need to find their parents, and let them know their children are safe...."
Picture
"I'm going to head up to the castle first..."
Picture
"Just keep them entertained until I come back. "
"Come, Max!!"  ......and they left.
Picture

Popcorn Chains

"Who would like to help me finish decorating our tree?"
Picture
"We like to make popcorn chains for our tree, and I think that would be a perfect job for you..."
So she set up Elora with a needle and thread, and bowls of popcorn and cranberries....
Picture
She made a long chain in no time....
Picture
After Elora finished the first chain, Nora took it to hang on the tree...
Picture
"It's looking really good..."
Picture
"It sure does.   We make popcorn chains at our house too, and I really like them..."
Picture
"And after Christmas," added Nora,
"when we take the tree outside, we leave the popcorn chains on it, as a treat for the birds."
Picture
"That sounds really wonderful. I'm going to ask my Mom if we can make popcorn chains for our tree next year too."
Picture

the Search Party

Nick and Max were headed towards the castle...
Picture
He soon came upon the King and the search party....
Picture
"You wouldn't happen to be looking for two little children?"
Picture
"Yes, the Princess, and these good people's son.  Have you seen them?"
Picture
"Yes, they are both safe at my house."
Picture
"Max here, found them in the woods. The Princess had had an accident, and the boy was trying to help her. They had been out in the snow for some time, and she was cold and in pain, so I thought it best to take them both to my cabin to warm up."
Picture
"Is she badly hurt?"
Picture
"No Sire. It looks like she just sprained her ankle. But she can't walk on it."
Picture
"If you follow me, I'll take you to her.."
Picture
So they followed Nick...
Picture
...and he led them to his cottage....
Picture

At the Cabin

Nora and the children had finished decorating the tree, and she was reading them the Christmas story....
Picture
"Shepherds were watching over their sheep that night.  Suddenly there was a bright light, and an angel appeared.
The angel said, "Fear not, for I bring you tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people...."
Picture
Suddenly, the door swung open, and Nick was back...
Picture
...along with the King, and Hans' parents....
Picture
"Daddy!!"
Picture

Reunion

"Your children have been nice and safe here, with my granddaughter, Nora..."
Picture
The King was so relieved.....
Picture
.....to see his daughter safe.
Picture
Hans ran to hug his mother...
Picture
"I'm so glad to see you!"
Picture

Elora and Her Dad

"I hear you had a little accident..."
Picture
"I was lost in the woods.... and I....I.....hurt my leg...." and Elora started to cry..."I was so scared..."
Picture
The King knelt down, as she reached for him....
Picture
He picked her up and gave her a big hug...
Picture
"You're going to be okay. Everything's going to be okay..."
