Naomi's Birthday
It was just past dawn on Naomi's birthday, when Baron got up to light the fire, then slipped back into bed with her...
"Happy birthday my love.."
But his plans for a romantic start to the day were interrupted by the pitter patter of tiny feet....
"What are you two doing up so early?"
"What are you two doing up so early?"
"We are too excited to sleep any more."
...and they climbed up into their parent's bed...
A Birthday Hug
It wasn't quite the start to the day Baron had envisioned, but this was the next best thing. Their children were just so adorable.
"So, why are you too excited to sleep?"
"'Because..."
"...it's Momma's birthday!"
"Well, that sounds like a very good reason. Maybe you could give her a big birthday hug."
He didn't need to suggest it twice..."Happy birthday Momma!"
"We love you Momma."
Naomi hugged them tight. "And I love the both of you too."
Gifts for Naomi
With the children keeping their Mom distracted with hugs and cuddles....
Baron slipped out to fetch his gifts...
"What's this?"
"I have something for you."
"Happy birthday!"
A Box of Thread
Naomi opened the first gift.
It was full of spools of thread...
"I love them! There's so many beautiful colours."
"But I don't understand. Wherever did you get them?"
"Oh, I have my ways."
An Iron
Then Naomi opened her second gift...
"It's an iron!" But she was even more confused...
"I remember seeing irons like this in an antique shop back home. They were from Victorian times."
"I love it, and it will be very useful, but wherever did you get it?"
"I'll tell you later. But first I have one more surprise for you."
the Surprise
Baron covered Naomi's eyes as he led her to the table where he'd moved the sewing machine.
"No peeking!"
"Okay. You can look now."
Naomi was speechless....
the Sewing Machine
Naomi was very surprised, and could barely believe her eyes. "It's an antique Victorian sewing machine!"
"Actually, it's not an antique. It's brand new."
"What do you mean it's 'brand new'? How is that even possible?"
"Well, remember when I had to go away for a few days last week? I was actually taking a little trip to the future to Victorian times, to find all these things for you."
Baron lifted the cover. "I knew how much you've missed your sewing machines, especially now that you have to do everything by hand..."
"So I thought I'd surprise you with one that would work here in this time and place."
"It was their brand new, top of the line sewing machine."
"It's perfect! I love it! Thank you!"
"I can't believe that you went to all that trouble just for me."
"I'd do anything for you."
Checking Out the Sewing Machine
Naomi could barely believe that Baron had gotten her a brand new Victorian sewing machine.
"It's gorgeous!"
She had to sit down and take a closer look...
"This is so wonderful!"
"I also picked up lots of extra needles, and some spare parts as back up, just in case."
"I can hardly believe it. You thought of everything!"
Daniel was totally enthralled by all the spools of colourful thread....and handed his Mother one...
"Thank you, Love."
"This is so beyond anything I would have ever expected."
"You are amazing! I love you so much!"
Showing the Family
Later that morning Miho and Dominic came by to wish Naomi a happy birthday, and she wanted to show them her sewing machine...
Miho was especially interested, since she'd been instrumental in helping Baron to get it. "So this is what Baron went looking for?"
"Yes. And I was lucky to find everything I was looking for in just one shop."
"It was interesting trying to pass myself off as a Victorian gentleman. And I think the poor shopkeeper was in shock when she added up all my purchases."
Dominic was especially interested...
...as Naomi explained how the sewing machine worked.
..and how it would make sewing anything so much faster and easier.
Daniel
While everyone else was looking at the sewing machine...
Daniel was still distracted by the spools of colourful thread. He was a bright, quiet little boy, but he'd gotten up way too early.
Baron noticed him sitting by himself...
...and picked him up.
"You look very tired."
Daniel laid his head on his Dad's shoulder...
. as they ent to join the others.
Naomi noticed her son. "You look so tired."
"You were up awfully early this morning. Maybe you need to go for a little nap."
But Miho wanted to hold him. "There, that's better, isn't it?"
Naomi smiled....
"Yes, who wants to take a nap when your favourite grandparents are here?"
