Dragons Out West - part 2
The continuing series of photos of my dragons on their trip to the Pacific....
To the Beach
Byuri was leading the dragons through the French Beach rainforest towards the beach on the Strait of Juan de Fuca, but it was quite hard going, especially for the little ones, so they had a little rest....
They finally got to the beach....
"Welcome to the Pacific Ocean!"
"Wow! Look at the size of the driftwood!""
"Well, the trees in the rainforest here are huge, so then the driftwood is as well."
Then they sat down on a large log, to just gaze over the water to watch the waves roll in....
...and watch the people strolling along the beach....
the Enchanted Forest
I'd always been curious about the Enchanted Forest which is along the Trans-Canada Highway near Revelstoke, but every time we've gone by in the past it was either too early our late in the day, so it was always closed. But this time we made sure to be passing by when it was still open. The dragons were only too eager to come along...
It was threatening to rain, but the dragons wanted to go anyways.
Saphira went to check out the view from the castle window....
But Winston and the kids were more interested in the treasure hoard...
They eventually went out to explore the forest, and the kids went wild climbing onto everything...."Get down off that roof!"
They came to another cottage...
And in a blink, the kids were up on the roof again. Winston just gave in, and went up just to make sure the kids were safe...
They met all manner of fairytale and nursery-rhyme characters...
There was even a pirate ship deep in the forest...
There were all manner of interesting houses...
...and exotic birds....
"Let's go look and see who lives in that house..."
The curious forest animals watched as the dragons explored their homes....
"Well, this has certainly been an interesting place to visit."
The dragon high on the ramparts watched them leave. "Do come back and visit us again some time!"
Fried Chicken
This was one of my favourite photo shoots from our entire trip. We were staying at the Jasper National Park Overflow Campground, and I had set up a scene on the picnic table to take photos of Maya's campsite for my doll story, when I suddenly felt inspired to do some fun photos having the dragons join him for an impromptu Fried Chicken dinner, using the tiny KFC gravy and coleslaw containers that I'd saved from our own take-out dinner several days earlier.
"What do you mean there's no ketchup?!"
Lake Edith Cavell
One cool morning Byuri took Winston, Nuri, and Sparkle up the mountain to see Lake Edith Cavell...
It was quite the hike....
It was quite the view....
It was one of Byuri's favourite places...
"It's so beautiful here."commented Winston.
"Yes, it is." agreed Byuri.
Bow Lake
Winston enjoyed visiting all the mountain lakes with Byuri....
This time Nuri came along...
Bow Lake, along the Icefields Parkway, was especially beautiful....
"I love how this lake has mirror-like reflections."
They stood there for a while, taking it all in.
Nuri loved all the mountains. She'd never seen anything like them.
"They look especially impressive with all the snow on them." commented Winston.
Wawa
Byuri and Winston were in Wawa...
She wanted to show him the Ojibway art painted on the walls of one of the shops....
Byuri and the goose. 'Wawa' is the Ojibway word for wild goose.
One wall had two huge moose.
Another wall had a family of bears...
Winston didn't quite understand it, but agreed that native art was definitely very colourful.
Byuri's Hat
It was the last day of their trip out west...
...and the little dragons had really enjoyed spending all the time with their new friend as she showed them her favourite places.
Sparkle and Scorch were planning something...
Sparkle grabbed Byuri's hat...
"Hey! Give that back!"
But Sparkle passed the hat to Scorch...
The others thought it was just too funny...
...because he couldn't see anything.
Good-Bye
It was finally time for the dragons to leave, so they posed with Byuri for one last group photo...
Elliot and Sparkle were excited to be going home...
But Nuri was feeling a little sad.
She was going to miss their new friend Byuri,
and Byuri was going to miss them too.
