Camping Again - continued
Fish & Chips
After the disastrous lunch, Aaron and Byuri decided to play it safe and buy their dinner in town. They had some of the 'world famous' fish & chips at Herbert's Fisheries down on the dock....
Collecting Bait
The kids loved the fish & chips, but knew they couldn't afford to eat at Herbert's every single day. So some of them got the bright idea to catch their own fish. But first they needed some bait....
Going Fishing
So they took their fishing poles and the container full of worms, and went to go fishing. But when it came time to actually put a worm on his hook, Ringo wasn't sure what to do....
"What, we are supposed to stick the hook right through him??"
Finally, with worms on both their hooks, they lowered them into the water, and sat back, wondering if they would catch anything.........and if they did, who would catch something first....
The kids sat patiently waiting to see if any fish would be attracted to their bait....
Nami spotted a big fish swimming near them. "Maybe you'll catch him..."
Then Ringo felt a tug on his line, and everyone turned to look....
....but the thrill of getting the first bite, turned to disappointment.....
It was just a piece of seaweed....
Suddenly Eric's pole bent hard down to the water....
... and he struggled to hold on...
The fish was HUGE, so Nami quickly slipped into the water with her net, to help land it...
"Wow, that is some big fish!"
Back at camp, everyone gathered round to see Eric's big catch....
Nami's Bath
After wading around in the edge of the lake, Nami wanted a bath. But being in a wilderness campground without any kind of modern facilities, she decided to set up her own private bath space. She found a large clean tub, boiled some water, and created a somewhat private space by hanging up some beach towels....
On the Rocks
Next morning, we went in the canoe out Chickanishing Creek to explore the rugged coast of Georgian Bay. We took along four little kids. When we pulled out on an island along the coast to stretch our legs and have a snack, the kids were only to happy to go exploring.
Sorry, No Tubing!
Along Chikanishing Creek in Kilarney, there's a small set of rapids over the rocks as the creek descends to the lake. Some of the kids put on their bathing suits and inflated their float rings, hoping to go tubing over the rapids....
Nyssa thought it looked like the perfect place to float down the stream....
..but I said..... "No way are you going to risk doing that! These are the same falls that swept Elin away a few years ago. She had to be rescued from the bottom of the river, and she was lucky she didn't drown. So no tubing here!" Ringo was not happy.
One Last Sunset
It had been a fun week, and it was almost over.
Everyone gathered to watch the sun set....
Then they lit the campfire one last time....
...and watched the embers die as the final day drew to a close....
Leaving
The next morning everything was packed and we were almost ready to leave. Aaron was poking in what was left of last night's campfire. "This has been a really fun week. I hope we can come again some other time."
