I did manage to take a few photos with Jan's old St. Nicholas. I made that guy over 20 years ago - one of the very first figures I ever sculpted. Anyway, his assistant, Black Peter, was nowhere to be seen, so Elin and Cinnamon volunteered to help out.
Well, spoke too soon - after just a few photos my camera seized up again, and I was back to the old one. Problem was the good lens on the old camera was seizing up now too, so it's probably something with the lens. Total bummer! The new photos don't have the sharp picture quality as the newer lens, even with a tri-pod - but poorer quality is better than no pictures at all. I guess. I did manage to take a few photos with Jan's old St. Nicholas. I made that guy over 20 years ago - one of the very first figures I ever sculpted. Anyway, his assistant, Black Peter, was nowhere to be seen, so Elin and Cinnamon volunteered to help out. I really like this photo. It has that "old-fashioned" feel, and reminds me of the old Dutch Christmas postcards my grandparents sent me when I was very little.
I've finally gotten back to working on the commissions which have piled up during the last month. I'm also taking holiday photos and with so many new dolls this year there's are lots of creative photo possibilities. I cleaned out my camera and it seems to be working again, so I'm back in business. First photos today were of Layla & Miki in their alternate holiday outfits. Little does Layla realize, but she will be getting a big sister very soon - hopefully some time next week. That should be fun!
My camera jammed yesterday in the middle of a photo-shoot, but fortunately I have my back-up Rebel. A quick transfer of the better lens to the old camera, and a readjustment of all the settings Jan had it on (he took ownership of it after I got the newer model) and I was all set to continue. Here's a quick shot of my two little Christmas Elves, Cinnamon and Elin. They are in the middle of putting mushrooms on the tree. I tried making some new wigs for Elin. A very dark brown human hair one turned out okay, but the lighter brown dynel (in the photo above) has issues and can't be worn except under a hat.
Most of my new Christmas outfits for Kaye Wiggs girls are sold - just one left - so I quickly took some last photos before packing them up. I found some wonderful cupcake ornaments at WalMart last week, and they are the perfect size for the girls. The icing and main decorations are already on, so Miki & Layla just have to add sprinkles for that final, special touch.
My Nelly is finally on her way! She was ordered way back in early July, and was supposed to come in November, but she's finally on her way. It's the longest I've had to wait for a doll so far. Now to see how long she takes to actually get here. Before or after Christmas??
The three new Kaye Wiggs MSD-size outfits have just been put up for sale. There is just one "Jennet" and "Heidi" available, as well as two "Christmas Plaids".
Cinnamon will be getting another new little friend! The Kaye Wiggs Tillie Elves went up for pre-order today. I've been waiting for this little imp to come up for pre-order for some time now. I was disappointed to miss the human Tillies a year ago, but the new elves are even cuter! Tillie is available in fair and sun-kissed, and I chose sun-kissed. Pre-order lasts until well into January, and the dolls won't be coming until April - around the same time as Hope.
I've been taking a break and making some simple holiday-inspired outfits for my Miki & Laya. The first set used a beautiful embroidered skirt I found at Value Village in September just I was going away, and right when I had already started the Renaissance ensembles. The outfits turned out beautifully, but I'm waiting for "mood" photos before I reveal them. The second set is a recreation of Narae's "Jennet" outfit that she wore on our trip to New England. I really liked that costume and thought it would work really well on my Kaye girls too. As soon as our Christmas decorations are up I'll be taking some fun holiday photos, but for now here's a peak at Miki & Layla in their new "Jennet" outfits. Today I'm continuing with two holiday dresses of red & green plaid, with a green velvet bodice and white lace-edged collar. These last few dresses are going way faster than I had thought. It's so nice to get something finished in two days instead of two weeks!
For their special Christmas Event this year Iplehouse has rereleased all of their Elemental Guardian dolls one last time - just the dolls, not their special outfits. I've always loved Byuri - something about her Asian features. She would have made a great little sister for my JID Asa, but she had been discontinued. Well, since she is now available again, for a very limited time, I've decided to order her. I have no idea how long I'll have to wait - their normal wait time is 50 to 60 working days - but the last doll I ordered from them, my little Elin, was shipped after just two days! I don't expect that kind of turn around this time considering all the dolls people are ordering right now as part of the Christmas Event.
