After two days of pouring rain, I woke to a winter wonderland - for the second Sunday in a row!  Well, I'd been wanting to photograph my Cuprit in her new Lavender Fairy outfit, so decided to give it a try out in the snow. Cuprit's lavender costume and long brown hair stand out beautifully against the snowy background.

"Just gorgeous!!!
Took a better look at her and her costume in the gallery. Those were the type of wings that I was FIRST contemplating making, but then thought to myself: 1) this is for a little girls 18" doll clothes costume! and 2) maybe I'd be better off trying something a little more simple for my first try at it!
I'm thinking that what I thought might be corduroy earlier, might be bengaline? It always amazes me how seamstresses can find different types of fabric to match/coordinate.
And as I was looking - before I read your description - I wondered if that slip wasn't made of lame, (and I thought to self - that stuff is SO "ravelly" can't be.) and sure enough it IS! Amazing!! fray check again?
I was considering making my wings with a sparkle organza, but I'm wondering if it will cover the wire. What type of fabric did you use for the wings in the simple wing tute? Kinda looks like a two- tone silk? tafetta?

These kinds of wings, although very effective-looking, are quite heavy, and don't stand out as well as a lighter wing. The pink lamé didn't need Fray Check since it was under some tulle which kept any unravelling in check.

My newest three fairies in Gallery 2013 were made with a sparkly organza. Paint covers the wire pockets, so you don't see the wires.

I have no idea what the fabric in the wing tutorial is - it was a cut-off of some semi-sheer curtain fabric, and I used it for wings because it held paint well. Actually, it absorbed the colours nicely, almost like a silk. I do have some silk, which is intended for wings, but I hate experimenting, so I've never tried it yet.
